Now that spring is slowly but surely approaching, it's finally tulip season again. A fresh bouquet of tulips is a must-have for many flower lovers in spring. How about a bouquet that's not from the local flower shop or supermarket? In many places, tulip fans can pick their own colorful flowers and create their dream bouquet.

And where better to do that than in the tulip country of the Netherlands? We will show you four especially beautiful tulip fields where you can pick your own tulips.

Anyone who thinks of tulips and the Netherlands surely has an image of the beautiful Keukenhof in mind. Every year, over 7 million flower bulbs are planted here, which then develop into breathtakingly beautiful flowerbeds. Keukenhof is one of the most popular destinations for all visitors to the Netherlands in spring.

The impressive flower park invites you to dream, explore, linger, and of course to pick tulips. This year, it opens its gates from March 23rd to May 14th.

In Hillegom, there is another beautiful tulip field where you can pick your own favorite bouquet in spring. Annemieke and her husband love flowers and have made it their mission to bring smiles to others with their blooms. They sell gorgeous bouquets at markets in Amsterdam and Haarlem.

Additionally, they invite flower lovers to visit them in Hillegom: during the tulip bloom, visitors can come and create colorful bouquets for about 7 weeks. You only pay 35 cents per tulip here, and you have the freedom to choose varieties, colors, and sizes.

In Noordwijkerhout, flower fans can pick their own bouquets both in spring and summer. In April and May, you can find beautiful tulips in different colors. Just choose the prettiest ones, pick them, and create your own bouquet. 25 tulips cost 5 €, 50 tulips cost 10 €. So it's not only an experience but a real bargain too.

In summer, from early August to mid-October, you obviously can't pick tulips, but there are plenty of other wonderful flowers like dahlias, sunflowers, or gladiolas to choose from. Three flowers of your choice then cost 1 €.

In the tulip picking garden in Marknesse, colorful tulips stretch as far as the eye can see. On 5,000 m², around 50 different and sometimes exclusive tulip varieties are grown each year, just waiting to be picked in spring.

Typically, the beautiful garden opens its gates from mid-April to mid-May. Since the tulip bloom is not 100% predictable, it's worth checking in advance whether the tulips are ready. Those who want to pick tulips here receive a bucket to fill with up to 30 colorful flowers. In 2022, this cost 10€, and prices for 2023 have not yet been released.

If you plan to spend several hours here, you can treat yourself to a lunch to go or a small sweet snack on site.

To pick tulips, you only need a basket or bag and a pair of scissors. Choose a row of tulips that you particularly like and carefully cut them off without damaging the plant. Make sure to cut the tulips as close to the base as possible to give them the best chance of lasting a long time.
