Treehouse Vacation
The birds are chirping, the leaves are rustling, the air is clear and fresh - a vacation at a treehouse hotel is a truly unique experience. After all, anyone can spend their holiday in a regular hotel room, right?
Those seeking an oasis of calm away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life will experience unforgettable days in nature at a treehouse hotel. High up in the treetops, you'll find the perfect retreat in a cozy, nature-inspired atmosphere - and many will fulfill a long-held childhood dream.
What you need to know about staying in a treehouse hotel and what extraordinary treehouses exist in the U.S. and Europe will be revealed in this article.
The 7 Most Beautiful Treehouse Hotels at a Glance
Treehouse Hotel - A Different Kind of Hotel
Treehouse hotel - in short: Sleeping in a tree. But not all treehouses in these special hotels are built high up in the treetops. Some treehouse resorts consist of small wooden cabins that reach tree height on stilts.
The difference: The stilt houses are static and do not sway with the wind like the 'real' treehouses.
In designing the treehouses, there are (almost) no limits to creativity. For example, in the Swedish Treehotel Harad, you can find 7 exclusive treehouses that could hardly be more unique.
You can stay in the 'UFO' or the 'Bird's Nest'. In Robins Nest in Witzenhausen, each house is lovingly built according to a unique theme - here you can sleep in the Treehouse Sphere, in the Cork House, or in the Stilt House.
But not only the external appearance of the houses varies. Their amenities range from simple designs without water and electricity to unique designs with natural materials to luxurious apartments. What they all have in common is a cozy, nature-friendly atmosphere paired with the absolute tranquility of the forest.
The first hotel of this kind in Germany opened in 2005 in East Saxony. At the Treehouse Hotel Kulturinsel Einsiedel, guests can choose from nine treehouses for relaxation.
We will introduce you to this and other unique treehouse resorts below.
Treehouse Hotel Kulturinsel Einsiedel
The Treehouse Hotel Kulturinsel Einsiedel is the first of its kind in Germany. The hotel consists of 9 houses built among the trees in the forest of the Grüngeringelt Adventure Park at heights of 26 to 33 feet.
A House, A Fairy Tale
Each of the 9 fairytale treehouses at Kulturinsel Einsiedel tells its own creative story and is connected to the celebration platform in the heart of the hotel via winding paths. Guests can choose from rustic, dreamy, or even mystical houses high up in the tree crowns.
For instance, 'Fiona's Air Castle' is decorated with flower wallpaper and wall and ceiling paintings. The sleeping area in the 'Dream Cocoon' offers its guests pure leaf rustling sounds. The Dream Cocoon hangs among the treetops, where the wind gently rocks you to sleep.
Treehotel Harads
Uniqueness in the Pine Forest
The Treehotel Harads in Sweden offers not only design lovers a top-notch accommodation. Swedish architects have succeeded in creating a unique hotel that is unparalleled.
Nestled in a pine forest overlooking the Lule River, each of the 7 exclusive treehouses at Treehotel Harad is designed by a different architect and is therefore unique.
Themed Houses
One example: The Mirror Cube. This futuristic cube measures 13 feet on each side and is made of ultralight aluminum that hugs a pine trunk. The catch: The exterior is completely clad in mirror glass. This way, it can blend completely into the surroundings through reflection of the landscape and sky. The other houses of Treehotel Harad, such as the quirky UFO, the Flying Dragon, or the perfectly camouflaged Bird's Nest, are just as unique.
Environmental Protection Despite Luxury
The Treehotel Harad treehouses are built at heights of 13 to 20 feet and range from 161 to 538 square feet in size. They are accessible via ramps, bridges, or electric retractable stairs. The hotel owners ensure that the impact of the treehouses on nature is kept to a minimum.
Not only are the innovative 'rooms' impressive from the outside. Each of the treehouses at the Swedish Treehotel is furnished with original, exclusive furniture and includes an eco-friendly toilet and a wash basin. With underfloor heating that ensures comfort even in winter, the hotel is open year-round. Truly unique!
Tree Top Walk in Austria
Wooden Houses on Stilts
Adventurers and nature lovers can also find a treehouse hotel for a holiday in Austria. Enjoy the tranquility of the forest in one of the 6 fantastic treehouses in the nature experience park Tree Top Walk.
The Interior
Inside each of the Tree Top Walk huts in Kopfing, you will find everything you need: A kitchenette with dining area, a TV, a sleeping room, a shower & a toilet, hot and cold water, heating for cold seasons, and even a balcony that promises a wonderful view in the treetops.
Treehotel Robins Nest
Adventure Houses Made of Natural Materials
Another oasis of tranquility can be found at the Treehotel Robins Nest. This popular hotel is located at the tri-border area of Hessen, Niedersachsen and Thüringen and opened in 2014. The treehouse hotel features 3 treehouses, 1 treehouse sphere, and 1 stilt tree, making it an ideal choice for an adventurous holiday in nature.
Each hut in Robins Nest is designed according to its own theme, providing individuality. All feature the use of natural materials and are furnished with rustic wooden furniture.
The Cork Treehouse
One example: The Cork Treehouse. Located 23 feet high, you can reach this treehouse via an impressive staircase and a landing. Besides the tranquility of the forest, from the Cork Treehouse you can enjoy a unique view of Schloss Berlepsch and the surrounding forest. Inside, the treehouse features larch wood and cork wall paneling, giving it a special charm.
A large panoramic window allows you to enjoy a fantastic view of the forest not only from the terrace. Like all 6 houses, the Cork Treehouse has electricity, light, and a heating device. You can even order lunch and dinner from the forest bar upon request.
The Idea Behind the Treehouse Hotel
Founder Peter Becker aims to bring people closer to nature. With the first six treehouses, he has succeeded brilliantly. Over time, more nests will follow, forming a small treehouse village interconnected by bridges and tunnels.
In Robins Nest, a holiday in the woods becomes a real experience!
Treehouse Hotel SeeMühle in Bavaria
Extraordinary Vacation in Bavaria
A popular treehouse hotel in Bavaria is the Treehouse Hotel SeeMühle in the Spessart region. It is located in a romantic oak and beech forest in the beautiful Waizenbach Valley, offering ideal conditions for a relaxing holiday.
The hotel has 6 treehouses, which have been carefully constructed to certain 300-year-old oaks and beeches within the nature park. Each of the treehouses at Treehouse Hotel SeeMühle is uniquely and lovingly designed.
For a feel-good vacation with maximum comfort in nature, all houses are equipped with heating, a bathroom with a shower, a toilet, a TV, and even Wi-Fi. Here, taking a break from everyday life is certainly easy.
The Cottage
One example: The Cottage, which can accommodate up to 4 people in 398 square feet. The cozy treehouse is furnished with softwood furniture and has two sleeping areas - one in the living area and one in the loft accessed by a ladder. Your stay in the Cottage at Treehouse Hotel SeeMühle is rounded off by a terrace offering a unique view.
The Old Mill
Right next to the huts is the hotel team's restored mill building. The water power generated by the mill is used in an environmentally friendly way for the construction and operation of the hotel.
However, the historical mill is not only responsible for energy production. The mill also offers the hotel's guests dining options. After a restful night's sleep, you can fortify yourself with a delicious breakfast prepared from fresh, regional products. Additionally, there is a beer garden, a mill shop, apartments, seminar rooms, and a bakehouse in the mill.
Cabanes des Grands Lacs

For an adventure vacation away from the modern world in the embrace of nature, these are ideal conditions. Your vacation at Cabanes des Grands Lacs is supplemented by a variety of recreational activities. The lovingly and cozily arranged houses are located 16 feet above the ground and are built on stilts. Some of the houses are also anchored to the old Spessart trees.
The treehouses, which have a base area of 269 square feet, comfortably accommodate 2 to 4 people. For the construction of the treehouses at Wipfelglück in Spessart, larch and spruce were used, allowing the fully wooden houses to harmoniously blend into the environment.
Bavarian Comfort in a Treehouse
All treehouses at Wipfelglück feature a cozy and bright decor, including seating and sleeping areas, a small bathroom with a toilet and sink, as well as running hot water.
Thanks to integrated heating, the houses of Treehouse Hotel Wipfelglück are habitable year-round. And: Your breakfast is delivered right to your 'home.' Every morning, you receive a well-stocked picnic basket - now that's vacation!
