Rank 9: San José, Costa Rica (18.24 points)
Rank 9 goes to a long-distance destination that transports us into a completely different world than the previous two. From the desert to the jungle in Costa Rica. Travelers can expect stunning landscapes with forests, waterfalls, volcanoes, rivers, and Caribbean beaches - everything needed for an unforgettable adventure vacation.
Those willing to accept one or two layovers can fly to San José, the capital of Costa Rica, for less than $500 in February or March. The average water temperature of 29 °C is particularly enticing, making San José the leader in the category of 'water temperature'. The city itself is not by the water, but it is only a stone's throw away from many dream beaches.
Rank 8: Mumbai, India (18.40 points)
Mumbai, which some may still think of as Bombay, is not only a fantastic destination for culture enthusiasts but also for film fans. The city is home to the largest film industry in the world: Bollywood. Those who love colorful films should not miss the chance to take one of the many Bollywood tours.
While in Mumbai, one should also definitely see the following attractions: the Gateway of India, the Elephanta Caves, the Hanging Gardens, and the Prince of Wales Museum.

Panama is a land of contrasts. On one side, there are modern metropolises like Panama City, and on the other, there are nearly mystical wild rainforests, volcanoes, deserts, the Caribbean, and the beautiful Pacific Ocean. And anyone who wants can experience all of it in a single day.
With an average outdoor temperature of 32.15 °C and the sea being a warm 26.5 °C, it's easy to forget winter in Germany, right? Additionally, travelers don't have to spend a fortune for a nice hotel. Rank 5: Marsa Alam, Egypt (20.98 points)
One country has made it into our top 5 with two enchanting destinations: Egypt. With 20.98 points, Marsa Alam secures 5th place. Between January and March last year, an average of 66,100 searches per month were made for the keywords 'vacation Egypt' or 'Egypt vacation' - which makes both Egyptian destinations winners in the 'demand' category.
Flights to Marsa Alam are also relatively affordable, with an average price of $342.83. Those who plan their vacation to Marsa Alam a bit further in advance can even expect much cheaper flights. It's really worth looking into package deals. However, even those booking their flight and hotel separately won't need to dig too deep into their pockets. A night in a 4-star hotel costs on average only $35.50.
With temperatures around 24 °C, Marsa Alam is one of the cooler destinations in our ranking, but compared to Germany in winter, 24 °C is truly pleasant. Whether one wants to swim or snorkel at a water temperature of 21.50 °C, for which Marsa Alam is a true paradise, everyone must decide for themselves.
Rank 4: Colombo, Sri Lanka (21.05 points)
With a slight lead of just 0.07 points, Colombo maneuvers into 4th place. The Sri Lankan capital attracts travelers in our winter months with warm temperatures, plenty of sunshine, and outrageously affordable hotel prices. 8.5 hours of sunshine, 31 °C air temperature, and 27.5 °C water temperature sound like a true dream destination, don't they?
Colombo secures a full 5.00 points in the 'hotel price' category. Here, travelers pay only $25.50 per person and night at a 4-star hotel. Those for whom luxury and comfort are not as important can find accommodation in a hostel for just $6 per night and spend more money on excursions and culinary delights.
Rank 3: Malé, Maldives (21.31 points)
Turquoise sea, white dream beaches, and plenty of luxury - welcome to the stunning Maldives. The popular archipelago is a special dream destination for many travelers and often the ultimate honeymoon destination. It's hardly surprising that it has also made it to the podium in our ranking.
What else speaks for a vacation in the Maldives besides a fantastic view of the azure Pacific and numerous water activities like swimming, snorkeling, or diving? An average of 8.5 hours of sunshine per day, an average temperature of 31.5 °C, and a pleasantly warm water temperature of 27.5 °C!
The Maldives are also the second most sought-after long-distance destination in the ranking after Egypt. With an average of 64,050 Google searches per month, they receive a proud score of 4.80 out of 5.00 points in the 'demand' category.
Rank 2: Bangkok, Thailand (21.62 points)
Hardly any metropolis is as exciting as Bangkok. Amazing street food, huge shopping malls, a vibrant nightlife, fascinating temples, soothing massages, and dreamy rooftop pools are just a few of the things that make Bangkok one of the most popular travel destinations in the world.
Bangkok even receives a full score of 5.00 points in one category. With an average temperature of 33.5 °C in February and March, Thailand's capital is definitely the 'hottest' long-distance destination. Thanks to the really affordable hotel prices in the city, Bangkok scores an impressive 4.98 out of 5.00 points in the 'hotel price' category. On average, a room at a 4-star hotel costs only $25.75 per traveler.
Anyone in Bangkok can indeed experience a lot and of course also travel further from the city - whether north to see the elephants in Chiang Mai or south to the stunning islands like Krabi, Koh Samui, Phuket, or Koh Tao. A trip to Thailand is definitely worthwhile for a combined journey.
Rank 1: Hurghada, Egypt (21.77 points)
One destination has indeed performed even better than the dreamlike Bangkok: Hurghada in Egypt. With a total of 21.77 points, this Egyptian beauty outshines all other long-distance destinations and secures the 1st place.
No other destination has managed to be the leader in two categories. Hurghada shares the top position in the 'demand' category with Marsa Alam, which is also in Egypt. Regarding flight prices, Hurghada is a bit cheaper. Thus, this fantastic destination can be reached this year in February or March for an average of just $336.17. Additionally, travelers can expect an average of $34.50 per person and night in a 4-star hotel, making it a relatively affordable dream vacation.
Travelers will have to make some compromises in Hurghada, similar to Marsa Alam, regarding temperatures. The sea temperature is 21.5 °C, which is not super warm but sufficient for a little refreshment. For the average outdoor temperature of 23.3 °C, Hurghada receives only 1.10 out of 5.00 possible points. However, compared to temperatures in Germany, that's really complaining at a high level. Anyone flying to Hurghada should definitely pack enough sunscreen, as 9.3 hours of sunshine a day is significant even at 23.3 °C, and who wants to get sunburned on vacation?
Conclusion: Sun and Sea - Everything a Longing Heart Desires
With so many fantastic long-distance destinations, one primarily wants to do one thing: pack their bags and leave immediately! It's almost irrelevant where the flight goes, as long as the destination is beautiful, sunny, and warm. All examined long-distance destinations share that in common.
One of the significant differences between the destinations lies in price. While a flight to Egypt costs only $335.17, travelers dreaming of Cuba will pay more than four times that amount ($1,786.83).
Ultimately, each person must decide what criteria to use when choosing their next destination. Should it be super warm? Then head to Thailand, Vietnam, or Panama. Prefer something a bit less familiar? Kuwait, Sharjah, or Bahrain might be an option. Or perhaps the focus is on affordable hotel prices? Bargain hunters still wanting a touch of luxury should consider a trip to Sri Lanka, Thailand, or Qatar.
Especially now in the cold German winter, all 32 analyzed travel destinations have a unique allure that definitely helps to escape the dreary winter blues: plenty of sunshine!
