The 10 Most Beautiful Soccer Stadiums in the World

1st Place: National Stadium (Beijing, China) | Due to its curved shape, the Chinese affectionately call their National Stadium the 'Bird's Nest'. The interwoven steel frame consists of several thousand individual parts, weighing a total of 50,000 tons. A combination of a typically oval stadium shape, paper-cut patterns, and Chinese pottery motifs give the chaotic arrangement an elegant appearance. The steel beams appear almost graceful and weightless. photo by www.travelcircus.de
2nd Place: Allianz Arena (Munich, Germany) | Like a "Star of the South", the Allianz Arena, opened in 2005, majestically stretches into the Bavarian night sky. A total of 300,000 LEDs illuminate the approximately 26,000 m² air cushion facade of the Allianz Arena. This is roughly equivalent to 3.5 soccer fields... photo by www.travelcircus.de
...The stands feature red and white seats that match the club colors and facade. The FC Bayern logo prominently displays on the north stand. Highlights also include the inscriptions - while you can read 'Bayern Munich' on the east stand, the lower tier of the west stand is adorned with the words 'Mia san mia'. This means: No one can strip the Bavarians of their lederhosen quickly. photo by www.travelcircus.de
3rd Place: Arena Națională (Bucharest, Romania) | Besides the tent-like roof, the stands of the Arena also inspire awe: A colorful mix of blue, yellow, and red seats - the colors of the Romanian national flag - contrast with the bright green pitch and give the impression of full occupancy from afar, even if no spectators are present. photo by www.travelcircus.de
4th Place: Olympic Stadium (Berlin, Germany) | Through the south entrance, soccer fans, sports enthusiasts, and occasionally concert goers enter through a majestic construction: The Prussian and Bavarian towers carry the five Olympic rings and create a fascinating atmosphere... photo by www.travelcircus.de
...From the stands, spectators look out onto the lush green pitch, surrounded by a blue tartan track - at the request and expense of Hertha BSC. But that's not all: The oval shape of the stadium is interrupted in the west by the so-called Marathon Gate, which opens up the view of the bell tower of the Maifeld. 5th Place: Henningsvær Stadium (Lofoten, Norway) | Admittedly, 'Stadium' might be a bit of an exaggeration - but the soccer field in the quaint fishing village of Henningsvær does have two goals, a home team, and a narrow asphalt strip for watching and parking. That's almost all it needs, as there are only 488 people living in Henningsvær (as of 2017). photo by www.travelcircus.de
6th Place: Shah Alam Stadium (Shah Alam, Malaysia) | The Shah Alam Stadium is spanned by two roof arches that, due to their wavy curvature, give the impression that the stadium roof is made of lined-up barrels. The clear highlight is the acrylic-colored accents, which make the stadium a true visual feast, especially from a bird's eye view - quite literally, as seen from above, Shah Alam Stadium resembles an eye. photo by www.travelcircus.de
7th Place: Moses Mabhida Stadium (Durban, South Africa) | The heart of the stadium is a 104 m high, 2,700 t heavy steel arch that spans the entire roof. The special feature: The apex of the steel arch has an observation platform that can be reached via cable car or 'sky walk'. photo by www.travelcircus.de
8th Place: Signal Iduna Park (Dortmund, Germany) | Welcome to the stadium of superlatives! With over 81,000 seats, Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund earns the title of "Germany's largest stadium". A total of 24,454 seats are reserved for fans in the south stand, making the home of Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund also house the largest standing area in Europe. photo by www.travelcircus.de
9th Place: PGE Narodowy (Warsaw, Poland) | Located in the heart of Poland's capital, Warsaw, PGE Narodowy is one of the most modern soccer stadiums in all of Europe. No wonder; the outer facade, made of fiberglass fabric, shines in the colors of the Polish national flag. photo by www.travelcircus.de
10th Place: Estádio Beira-Rio (Porto Alegre, Brazil) | For the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Estádio Beira-Rio was completely modernized. As part of the renovations, the stadium received a new appearance both inside and out: the stadium is now surrounded by a steel dome made up of 65 leaf-shaped segments - an absolute visual delight from a bird's eye view. photo by www.travelcircus.de

The wait is finally over: Since August 24th, the ball has been rolling again on the pitch of the Bundesliga. After a much too long summer break, fans can once again pilgrimage joyfully, cursing, and euphorically to their beloved soccer temples and send a prayer to the soccer gods.
