Culture of the Lower Rhine

Moyland Castle is often referred to as the fairytale castle of the Lower Rhine, and rightly so. This water castle in the district of Kleve is one of the most important neo-Gothic buildings in North Rhine-Westphalia. The name of the castle comes from the Dutch words mooi land, meaning 'beautiful land'.

For its visitors, the castle holds many attractions, notably the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. The collection found here originates from the private collection of the van der Grinten brothers. Additionally, Moyland Castle hosts changing exhibitions and various events, including public tours of the castle and gardens, open-air programs with musical accompaniment, and hydrangea tours.

The museum café also invites visitors to relax, where they can enjoy delicious cakes and pastries as well as hearty snacks, salads, and various specialty drinks.

Located in a large forest area with many hiking trails, the Tüschenbroich Mill is situated in pure idyllic surroundings. This recreational and leisure complex lies at the south gate of the Schwalm-Nette Nature Park near Wegberg. Two of the total of 14 mills found in and around Wegberg are located here: The Tüschenbroich Oil Mill and the Tüschenbroich Grain Mill.

The latter now houses a restaurant with upscale traditional cuisine in a beautiful setting. From the terrace, enjoy views of the namesake castle, the castle pond, and the forest. After an extensive walk, a bike tour, or a boat ride, you can indulge in fresh cake from the in-house patisserie.

The Royal Air Force Museum in Laarbruch-Weeze is Germany's only museum of its kind and is located in the former St. Peter's Church. Over the years, the museum association has collected various pieces documenting the presence of the British Air Force from 1954 to 1999.

Visitors can gain insight into the friendly developments between the British military and the surrounding towns and communities. Alongside posters, photographs, and films, one can admire various exhibits including a Bloodhound missile, several cockpits, a Rapier missile defense system, and a military police uniform that were used by former units of the Royal Air Force.
