Berlin
In Berlin, you'll find 28 enchanting Christmas markets spread throughout the city. To make the most of your day, take advantage of public transportation. This year, the U7 is the best route to experience the Christmas markets, passing by 8 of them from Spandau to Rudow.
It doesn't always have to be Mitte. Away from the bustling city center, you can enjoy just as much holiday spirit in the southern districts like Zehlendorf and the southeastern area of Treptow, with charming markets such as the Handicrafts Christmas Market at Mexikoplatz or the Christmas market at Späth'sche Baumschulen.
Just like the capital itself, the Christmas markets in Berlin are incredibly diverse. Whether it's stunning handicrafts, the classic mulled wine market with decorated stalls, or nostalgic markets reminiscent of old times - Berlin has it all.
Hamburg
In Hamburg, you have the luxury of choice: 30 different Christmas markets await in this beautiful Hanseatic city. Most of the markets are located in the city center. The U3 line takes you to a total of 13 Christmas markets.
Here, it's not just the gingerbread that tempts you. Hamburg offers a wide selection, with something for everyone. About a third of the markets are family-friendly and will bring joy to children. Hamburg can also be quite different! As the only one of the four German cities, Hamburg has not one, but two Pride Christmas markets: Santa Pauli on the Reeperbahn and Winter Pride (U Hauptbahnhof Nord). At these markets, the mulled wine heats things up!
Cologne
Cologne enchants this year with 10 Christmas markets. Christmas lovers will find themselves especially captivated in the heart of the Rhine metropolis, where lines 1, 7, and 16 pass four Christmas markets. At the 'Rudolfplatz' station, you can experience double the Christmas joy: the beautiful Nikolaus village for the whole family and the famous Heavenue Cologne - The Gay Christmas Market.
For the people of Cologne, it must be unique. This year, Cologne is presenting particularly many markets in the 'Special Tip' category. Each unique and individual, they all create a cozy Christmas atmosphere. At the Harbor Christmas Market by the Chocolate Museum (Station "Heumarkt"), for example, everything revolves around the theme of the harbor and seafaring.
Munich
Experience almost half of all Munich's Christmas markets in one day? The U3 and U4 make it possible! These lines take Christmas enthusiasts to a total of 9 out of 21 festive locations. The 3-meter tall Santa Claus and the puppet theater at Moosacher Hüttenzauber (U Moosacher St.-Martins-Platz) will delight children once again this year.
Tradition? No, here it gets particularly special. If you prefer the extraordinary, you're in luck in Munich. This year, five Christmas markets offer diversity and individuality. Definitely worth a visit are the exciting Winter Tollwood Festival at Theresienwiese and the romantic Feuerzangenbowle at Isartor.
If the mulled wine isn't hot enough for you yet, don't miss the extravagant Pink Christmas at Sendlinger Tor. At this colorful Christmas market of the LGBTQ+ community, not only is the gingerbread a treat.
Vienna
Unique craftsmanship, sweet treats, and atmospheric lights and music - each year, the city transforms into a beautiful Viennese Christmas wonderland. There are 18 Christmas markets on this year's Vienna Christmas schedule. Eight of them can be reached using the Christmas lines U2 and U6.
A contemplative Christmas time that is family-friendly, classic, extraordinary, and full of stunning craftsmanship - this is how the Viennese prefer their Christmas markets. At the majority of Vienna's markets, you can purchase enchanting handmade gifts, such as in the Christmas village at Maria-Theresien-Platz. Anyone wanting to dive into the imperial charm of Vienna should definitely visit the Christmas village at Belvedere Palace (Station Quartier Belvedere).
This year's exhibition at the Advent market and Christmas showcase in the Hirschstetten Flower Gardens reveals more about the history of Christmas and the traditions of different countries.
